Work a cold out of your body, The Biggest Loser blastoff, and the best year for you.
Sneezing, Coughing and Working Out
I’ve battled this question many a time: I’m sniffly, sneezing, coughy, achy and all of those symptoms that NyQuil claims to help. The question is, do I work out or take a break? While the topic hasn’t been studied intensely, a recent New York Times article mentions two studies published a decade ago that support working out while you’re cold-ridden. One study of exercisers deliberately infected with colds found that having a cold had no effect on lung function or exercise capacity. Another study showed there was no difference in recovery time between the sniffly participants who exercised and those who rested. The FBGs say if you have the energy to exercise, give it a shot. If you don't, take it easy.
Beat a cold.
Biggest News
In keeping with the theme of The Biggest Loser Week on the Fit Bottomed Girls, we would be remiss not to mention tonight’s premiere of Season 7 of the show. This season is another couples version of the show where married couples, best friends, siblings and even cousins come together as teams to lose weight as a team. Tune in tonight at 8 p.m. EST to get inspired! In other BL news, former contestants Amy and Marty Wolff, who met on the show, are making their own BL family and are expecting their first child. And, of course, tune in for our interview with Bob Harper tomorrow!

I was really surprised how much I enjoyed Oprah yesterday.
not annoying
not whining
AT ALL.
I adore her striving for balance notion which, for me, works better when envisioned as striving for HARMONY.
but I loved it.
I think working out with a cold is fine if you fee up to it but PLEASE wipe down anything you touch in the gym ;)
I could not be more excited for the premiere of The Biggest Loser. I find it really hard to stay motivated during these winter months. Having this show to look forward to certainly helps!
I totally forgot about Oprah though, I meant to record the show but it slipped my mind. I'll have to remember to tune in this afternoon for the continuation!
I agree with MizFit. I dug yesterday's Oprah. And am I the only one that DID NOT notice she gained weight over the years?!? I don't know I guess I just always see her the same way LOL
I've already got the DVR ready to record the entire season of BL - I started using a BL workout video and developed a little crush...this will be the first time I've actually watched the show though!
And I'm just starting to get over my cold, so that advice is sort of timely too...I exercised even on the days I felt worst and I think it helped me feel better. I would second Erica's comment though - don't even go to the gym if you have a cold; work out at home!
I've found exercising with a cold really helps, er, how to say this nicely? It helps get the juices flowing? Fine when I'm outside, alone on a trail, with no one to hear me expectorate. Less cool when someone's nose is dripping all over the treadmill!
Hey! I can't read your whole posting since I haven't watched the biggest loser premier yet... I did slowly read the first paragraph, though, hoping it wouldn't spoil anything :) ...So, my experience is that if I exercise when sick I end up WAY SICKER. I did that once (I think I let myself get dehydrated) and learned that lesson for my lifetime.. I will not test that again. But, each person is different. :)
I definitely think this season's biggest loser is going to inspiring. They have some highest weights of the show's history. I can't wait to see the changes!
Juliet: No spoilers here! We wouldn't do that to you.
I know what you mean about getting sicker, though. I let my cold guide me. If I don't even feel like getting out of bed, I don't work out. If I'm not miserable, I'll do something lighter or just walk. The body always knows best!
